when we were little, my brother and i always turned fantasia off when it got to ‘a night on bald mountain’ because it scared us.
now, i watch it a lot with warren. almost every morning. and he likes ‘a night on bald mountain’ (kids these days, i swear), so we don’t skip it.
after ‘bald mountain’ is ‘ave maria’, which has become one of my most favorite parts of the movie. it’s so simple. there’s hardly anything going on, but there’s so much detail and love put into it, you can tell. in the reflections of light in the water and the veins in the leaves…. it’s just so beautiful.
i don’t think i would have appreciated it as a kid anyway, but i do wish we’d have given it a shot.

when i was little, i wanted to be her. this was my favorite part of fantasia, the entire pastoral scene, but i really wanted to be this specific centaur. i actually had dreams about it.
